Shelburne Health & Fitness becomes official!

October 7, 2005

Doug Nedde (of Redstone) and Ute Talley enjoy the moment after signing the lease for the new home of Shelburne Health & Fitness.

The "before" pictures...

We can't wait to turn on the lights and welcome you in!

Once we get the new carpet installed and freshen the paint, we'll be ready for all the brand new weight and cardio equipment we have coming!

Sometimes you can just get lost gazing out the window at the gazebo and the beautiful fall colors at Shelburne Commons.

Anyone up for a ride?  Join us soon for a Spinning® ride on one of our brand new Spinning® bikes by Star Trac.

Or maybe take an aerobics or yoga class.  You may even want to come enjoy the sunshine and peace and quiet when the aerobics studio is not in use.

But we have some work to do first.

And a few lockers might help!  But don't worry.  We're already hard at work.  As soon as it's safe and we've received the necessary permits & certificate of occupancy, we'll invite you in to take a look for yourself.  In the meantime, enjoy the remains of the beautiful fall weather, and when it really starts to turn cold, we'll see you inside!

Mark Willis, of M.R.Willis Construction works on the renovation of our lounge.  Mark did a great job removing the small massage studio that had been in the southwest corner of our space.

The light coming through the windows in the new lounge area is wonderful.  We will be adding a table and chairs in the window area so that you can take a few minutes to grab a cup of coffee and peruse the paper before heading off to work in the morning.   Or grab a floor cushion and enjoy the sunshine sitting in the window area.  We'll also be adding comfortable seating and tables so that you can catch up with friends before heading out for the day.  This space already feels really nice!

Redstone has started work on the insulation and heating/cooling system to make sure that we're comfortable this winter when the temperatures drop below zero.

October 20, 2005

Redstone was really quick getting our name onto the sign at Shelburne Road.  And what great timing now that the Route 7 road construction is beginning to show signs of completion.  By the time we open our doors on December 1, the Route 7 construction should be finished and you'll be able to zip on down from Burlington and South Burlington and up from Shelburne/Charlotte and points south in a matter of minutes!

October 21, 2005

Wouldn't a sauna feel great on these chilly autumn days?

October 23, 2005 ~ Painting Party!

What a crew we had on Sunday for our first painting party!  Many thanks to Charlie, Chris, Kate, Mark, Kristen, Sandi, Matt & girls, Peter, Tricia, Zoltan, Tara and Max for a job well done.  We managed to paint the front area, the entire weight/cardio room and the office - all in one day!  Just wait till you see how nice and fresh it looks!

Charlie (below) showed great skill in tackling the entrance.  He also served as the welcoming committee as several friends popped in to say hi and have a look around.

Matt brought along two young apprentices to help freshen up the walls outside the childcare room.  They did a great job!

October 31, 2005 ~ samples from our lounge

Want a sneak peek?  OK, you have to use your imagination with this one, and please keep in mind that the colors on your screen are not exactly what these look like in "real life".  Our carpets are going to be replaced by the blue carpeting you see on the right.  It actually appears quite a bit darker in real life.  The red behind the carpet samples is a cushion from the sofa we just bought for the lounge.

You're going to love the lounge!  It's already looking quite cozy with the new chairs in the windows (the tables should be in soon) and the newly painted walls.  This space is going to be great for catching up with friends, reading the paper with a cup of coffee and a healthy muffin before work, or checking your email on our new wireless network (assuming that our DSL ever arrives!)

November 2, 2005 ~ Going from bad to worse?
The guys from New England Floor Covering arrived early this morning to begin the carpet removal.  It's surprising how much different the place looks without the grey carpeting.

It's hard to imagine that in just a couple of weeks (or less) this room will have brand new carpeting, freshly painted trim and brand new weight training and cardio equipment.

We considered showing you what the locker rooms look like at this point, but we didn't want to scare you.  Seriously though, the mirrors were replaced in the locker rooms today in addition to the carpet being removed.  It sure is fun to watch the forward progress.

Our sign was put up today!  Kershner Signs did a wonderful job with both this sign, and the signs on the doors.  Thanks Sara!

November 10, 2005 ~ What a day!

The race was on!  It was carpeting day and we hadn't yet finished painting the carpeted rooms.  Sandi came in early to work on the men's locker room with the hope that we could finish it and also Timberlane Physical Therapy's room before the guys came to carpet those rooms.  We did it!  Now all we have left to paint is the toilet area in both locker rooms (we're still waiting for the stalls to be re-installed) and some areas in the aerobics room.  It sure doesn't look real attractive without the carpeting does it?

While we were busy in the men's locker room, Kent Cummings was hard at work finishing up the trim.  If you are ever in need of a great painter, give Kent a call.  He's awesome!  Call us at the club for his number if you need it.

Behind Kent, the guys from New England Floor Coverings were winning the battle against the remaining carpeting (and the tiles that were underneath it).  They must have used super glue when it was originally installed!

In the meantime, the new carpeting was being installed in the weight/cardio room!  We expected the carpeting to really shrink the room, but it didn't.

We could not be more pleased with the new carpet.  It looks beautiful!  There's still plenty of work to be done, but this room is now ready for all the equipment that will be arriving on Monday.  Stay tuned for more "after" photos of the carpeting project.

Before
After

Well?  What do you think?  I was going through some "before" photos and couldn't resist showing you the "before" and the "after" side by side.  Tomorrow it will look drastically different again as the new cardio and weight equipment goes in.  There's so much more to see!  Come in to see the newly carpeted locker rooms and the new cabinetry that was put in today.  But wait until Wednesday, November 16 because we will be closed the evening of Monday, November 14 through Tuesday, November 15 for employee training.  We will re-open for tours on Wednesday, November 16 from 10 am - 1 pm and resume the schedule below.

November 14, 2005
New England Fitness Distributors arrived as scheduled for our much anticipated delivery day.  It felt like Christmas as the equipment was brought into the club.

We're not exactly ready to open our doors quite yet!  After a long day, most of the equipment is in and assembled.  Tomorrow we make sure that it's all set up properly and we'll receive training on all the new pieces (just wait till you see them!)  Considering how eager the staff is to try it all out, we're sure you're going to love it!  Just a reminder that we will be closed on Tuesday, November 15 for staff training.  Come see all the new equipment Wednesday!

These are some of the most amazing guys on the planet.  Please meet Douglas Sprouse, Bill Newberg, and Day-Lee Epps from New England Fitness.  These guys are amazing!  Bill is our equipment rep and has provided us with incredible support since I first met with him back in the spring.  Douglas and Day-Lee were instrumental in getting everything situated just right in the club.  You're going to love the layout!  Thank you guys!

November 16, 2005 ~ The equipment is ready!
The weight and cardio equipment is all in place and ready to be used!  We love the layout and we're especially excited about some of the new pieces we've added.  Read on...

This is the new abductor/adductor machine.  Notice the shield for privacy.

We suspect that this new ab crunch machine will be a popular piece here at Shelburne Health & Fitness.   You'll see results from this machine!

This is one of our new stars.  This is called the Functional Training System FTS) and it can be used for a total body workout.  You can adjust the pulleys to customize the machine to your size.

Along with our FTS, our new 4-station unit will give multiple users great variety in their workouts.

Our Cardio area is fully outfitted with Precor machines including elliptical cross trainers, treadmills, recumbent bikes, upright bikes, a stair climber and Concept 2 rowers.  They're packed with features such as receivers for your heart rate monitor so that you can work out efficiently, a fitness test feature that allows you to track your progress, a place to hold your books/magazines and your CD player, and easy controls, just to name a few.

We'll soon install our TVs for those that like to pass the time with some entertainment.  Others of you may just enjoy watching out the windows.  The view when it's snowing is just beautiful!

We've placed the rowers in front of the windows rather than the mirrors.  These brand new Concept 2 rowers are incredibly smooth and a wonderful way to get an total body workout.

November 25, 2005

Allison arrived bright and early on Friday, November 25 to become our first official member to work out in our new club on our unofficial opening day.  We officially open on Thursday, December 1 at 5:30 am, but we've invited all those who have already joined to start using the club as of Friday, November 25.  We are now open for our regular hours for membership sales and use by members.

It didn't take long for Darren to try out the new Functional Training System.  It's great to see our members enjoying the equipment.

December 2, 2005

It felt like Christmas when our 21 brand new Star Trac Spinning® bikes arrived!  These bikes are amazing.  They have a different braking system than the old Schwinn bikes so you have greater range between your flats and your hills.  There are 2 water bottle holders so you can stay properly hydrated and they are smoooooth!

Our classes have started!  We've got a great group of talented instructors ready to take you for a ride!  We offer Spinning® classes at 6 am, 8:30 am, and 6 pm Monday - Friday, and 9 am on weekends.  Take a look at our schedule to see when your favorite (or soon-to-be-favorite) instructor is teaching.

A LOVING GIFT

Shelburne Health & Fitness wishes to thank Fred and Barbara Anderson, owners of Anderson's Tree Farm in Charlotte, Vermont for the gift of this beautiful tree.  It really makes our club feel even more like home!

Tis the Season for Spinning®!

On Sunday, December 19, Rick & Darci Lunt decked the halls of our Spinning® studio and the atmosphere was festive!

Complete with ornament and lights, Rick L. warms up before class...

but he wasn't alone.  Darci and Allison joined Rick before class to start warming up.  Weekend classes are beginning to fill.  Check the class schedule and then sign up (either in person or via phone) for your choice of times and instructors.

Just over 2 weeks ago, these beautiful, brand new Star Trac Spinning® bikes were delivered to Shelburne Health & Fitness.  It felt like Christmas to watch them arrive and now it looks like it too!  Thanks Darci & Rick!
